Heading: Crew 2: Medium Difficulty Trek
Lead Advisor: [TBA]
The Goal: A fully customizable High Adventure experience. The difficulty, mileage, and specific trail programs will be voted on by the youth members of this crew.
Trek Highlights: Because this crew chooses their own itinerary, they can tailor the trek to their interests. Whether the crew wants to focus on a moderate hiking pace, spend more time at program camps (like blacksmithing, spar pole climbing, and gold panning), or target specific southern peaks, the choice is theirs.
Expectations: While this crew has a more flexible daily schedule than Crew 1, Philmont is still a rugged environment. Participants must still pass the Philmont physical requirements, carry all their own gear, and operate as a unified, youth-led team.
Example Itinerary from 2026->
The overall youth commander of the crew. They organize the daily schedule, make final decisions on the trail, and communicate directly with the Ranger and Adult Advisors.

Scouts will rotate daily as the primary map-and-compass navigators. They dictate the pace and keep the crew on the correct trail. Each Liberty Troop Crew will also complete the Orienteering Merit Badge while on trail.

While we hike separate paths, we train as one Troop. Both crews are required to attend mandatory practice hikes, including two overnight shakedowns, to test gear, master knots (clove hitch, taut-line, etc.), and perfect the bear bag toss.
